Questioning Gender Norms to Promote Sexual Reproductive Health Among Early Adolescents: Evidence from a School Program in Mumbai, India

摘要: Early adolescent interventions are expected to prepare grounds for positive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes at later ages. If girls boys socialized into believing in practicing gender equitable norms attitudes, they would be more likely change their behaviors, which lead making informed choices engaging less risky SRH behaviors. This chapter presents one such intervention called Gender Equity Movement Schools (GEMS) carried out Mumbai schools among early of ages 12–14 years. Interventions promoting equality included structured group education activities (GEA) school-based campaigns with students grades VI VII over 2 Girls exposed the showed much greater improvement self-reported measures than those no interventions. Domain specific analysis attitudes however that some areas relations were others. Findings suggest gender-focused initiatives must engage children also pay special attention difficult change.
