摘要: Stacking faults, which were detected in the Ag-In system, have been examined by transmission electron microscopy and diffraction. An enhanced concentration of stacking faults splat cooled specimens as well formation a metastable hexagonal phase f c region alloy was observed. As far we know this is first case terminal solid solubility being reduced rapid quenching. Terminal because high structural defects introduced quenching, e.g. dislocations serve nuclei for transformation from to h p structure. Our measurements calculations show that fault energy minimum shifted lower concentrations with respect corresponding equilibrium boundary c-h transformation. The new confirmed X-ray examinations. We explain “earlier” appearance quenched consequence interaction Fermi surface contracted Brillouin zone. zone contraction attributed quenched-in vacancies.
