Cross-cultural differences in types and beliefs about treatment in women with temporomandibular disorder pain.

摘要: OBJECTIVES Women with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) pain from three cultures were assessed for type of treatment received and core illness beliefs. METHODS In a clinical setting, 122 women patients chronic TMD (39 Saudis, 41 Swedes 42 Italians) evaluated patient characteristics, practitioner, beliefs about prior to consultation in specialist centres. Measures included survey treatments belief scale regarding contributing, aggravating treatment-relevant factors related the pain. All questionnaires translated English culturally adapted. Comparisons among cultural groups performed using linear regression model continuous variables logistic dichotomous variables. A P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS The study found no significant associations between practitioners consulted previously. Treatments differed cultures: most commonly behavioural therapy, acupuncture an occlusal appliance; Saudis Islamic medicine; Italians antidepressant. significantly more likely than believe that should address factors.
