摘要: Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance Aerva lanata (L.) of the family Amaranthaceae is a Nigerian medicinal plant used traditionally for management lithiasis, headache, renal disorder, haematemesis, bronchitis, nasal bleeding, cough, scorpion stings, fractures and spermatorrhoea. Studies that show pharmacological basis some such uses have been reported. There is, however, no scientific report on its toxicity profile to best our knowledge. Aim study This was therefore aimed at investigating aqueous extract lanata. Materials Methods Acute tests administered orally 1−30 g/kg intraperitoneally 0.1−2 g/kg were carried out in albino mice; while sub-chronic test done by daily oral administration 40−1000 mg/kg rats 90 days. Anthropometric, biochemical haematological parameters’ assessments as well vital organs histological examinations performed study. Results The LD50 intraperitoneal acute 22.62 g/kg 0.432 g/kg respectively. produced apparent changes body weights both male female significantly (p Conclusion overall findings this suggest A. relatively safe exposure, moderately toxic with antioxidant actions prolonged exposure. It however shows potentials effects cellular damage organs, dyslipidaemia reduction reproductive capacity. Caution must be applied use long term basis.
