摘要: Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), with unclear etiology, is the most common entrapment neuropathy. Its occurrence related to lots of medical and non-medical conditions uncertain causality. With a large population, we characterized selected demographical clinical factors add more information on CTS-correlated new insight into future CTS prevention. Methods: A national insurance claim dataset one million enrollees in Taiwan was used identify 15 802 patients 31 604 randomly controls, during period 7 years starting 1 January 2000. Statistical association determined for five sociodemographic nine factors. Results: Patients were predominantly women (65.6% vs. 47.7% control group) older (40 above, 62.6% 36.2%). Rheumatoid arthritis found be significant comorbidity associated CTS, followed by gout, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, uremia, acromegaly. For younger group age ≤39, these comorbidities stronger, hypothyroidism vitamin B6 deficiency additional comorbidities. Aging appears reduce relative impact diseases commonly as possible risk factors. Conclusions: Identification correlates would greater value timely detection treatment diseases. Correcting disorders may aid removing causes CTS. This first report effect aging probable factors. How contribute development remains determined.
