摘要: All forms of capital represent assets various kinds yielding streams benefit. The "income stream" that flows from social is analyzed here as mutually beneficial collective action. analysis delineates two main categories capital: structural (roles, rules, precedents, and procedures), cognitive (norms, values, attitudes, beliefs). A continuum presented in terms people's orientation toward positive-sum outcomes positive interdependence utilityfunctions. case studyfrom Sri Lanka shows how the twoforms can produce substantial material benefits. Farmer organizations established under a donor project early 1980s produced unexpected otherwise unobtainable rice production results an acutely water-short season (1997) when government engineers had figured no could or should be grown. By effective cooperation by equitable sharing scarce water,farmers achieved better than normal crop, worth some $20 million.
