摘要: Unidimensional solute redistribution during freezing is modelled for the important case of complete diffusion in liquid and incomplete back-diffusion solid by Brody Flemings analysis. The treatment, however, does not conserve leads to predictions which are incorrect unless state very limited. This paper outlines origin this effect presents a modification model predicted behavior quantitatively correct limits. Application modified analysis shown be simple lead realistic descriptions solidification mushy alloys. As an example, applied two steels solidifying over range cooling rates results indicate that such systems will many cases quite close thermodynamic equilibrium with respect carbon redistribution.
