Build a Better State Hospital: Deinstitutionalization Has Failed

摘要: The author cites increasing numbers of chronic, homeless, and neglected mentally ill people as evidence the failure deinstitutionalization community care to live up their promise reduce chronicity, need for long-term hospitalization, even mental illness itself. He believes state hospital system, despite having been maligned nearly destroyed, has great therapeutic potential. It could provide extended acutely patients before they become chronically ill; restore ability pinpoint responsibility patient care, which lost under care; a stimulating academic environment conducive research into treatment ill.
