摘要: Recent studies have suggested that V1 neurons extract figures from their backgrounds, in they respond better to interior features of than equivalent background stimuli. This is reportedly true even when the figure boundaries are distant borders classical receptive field (RF). To test role figure-ground segregation, we recorded responses texture on centered RF. The elements remained identical across trials, and were defined by orientation differences between relative figure. For nearly all (98/102), a large did not differ uniform-texture background. Although many gave enhanced boundaries, this occurred only within or close RF borders. Similar effects found V2. V1, limited spatial extent contextual modulation was increased either at low stimulus contrast animal rewarded for detecting an orientation-defined Thus, appear signal rather per se. Unexpectedly, significant long-latency stimuli located entirely outside RF, up 5° border some cases. However, these depend forming contained influenced do segregate ground.
