Investigation of the microstructure and the influence of iron on the formation of Al8Mn5 particles in twin roll cast AZ31 magnesium alloy

摘要: Abstract The influence of iron on the formation Al 8 Mn 5 particles during twin roll casting AZ31 magnesium alloy and microstructure has been investigated. Flower-shaped with sizes 50–500 nm were observed at grain centres boundaries. Additionally, Fe-particles faceted morphologies dimensions less than 100 nm particles, suggesting that α-Fe acted as effective nucleation sites for particles.
