Sexual Expression in Later Life: A Review and Synthesis

摘要: In the past decade, researchers have begun to study sexual functioning of typical older persons. This review summarizes literature on sexuality men and women over age 50 as researched by social health scientists. Research relationship biological factors (changes accompanying aging), (physical, mental, medication use), psychological (attitudes, information about sex), (status, satisfaction), (desire, dysfunctions, treatment) behavior is reviewed. The suggests that (a) remain sexually active into their 70s 80s, (b) aging-related physical changes do not necessarily lead decline in functioning, (c) good mental health, positive attitudes toward sex later life, access a healthy partner are associated with continued activity. turn, regular expression health. Progress understanding life requires development comprehensive theoretical models, broad focus intimacy, attention measures samples, research couples. especially important, given aging populations.
