摘要: The atmospheric buildup of greenhouse gases (GHGs) is a serious environmental issue. Globally, agricultural activities are an important source anthropogenic GHGs, contributing ∼20% the annual increase. Management choices largely determine if soils will be source, sink, or neutral with respect to GHG net flux. proportion land that seeded pulse crops in Northern Great Plains (NGP) region North America has been increasing rapidly over past decade. Introducing pulses into cereal-based cropping systems could influence balance those because thought stimulate soil-emitted N 2 O, have different pesticide and fertilizer requirements, quality quantity their residues vary substantially compared cereal crops. In this paper we briefly review available literature, discuss potential impact on flux CO , CH 4 from soils, emissions associated energy inputs for NGP. We also calculate balances two example sites. Estimating final outcome introducing still uncertain, but current information suggests replacing crop likely result no change small positive benefit (lower atmosphere) rotations NGP region.
