摘要: The much debated question of whether the strength criterion a fluid saturated porous medium, such as most geomaterials, can be expressed in terms “effective stress,” is critically examined this paper using yield design homogenization theory an investigating tool. Adopting periodic description material at microscopic level, where phase exerts pressure on solid matrix making up skeleton, general definition properties macroscopic scale given. While some situations are identified stress principle,” classically formulated, remains appropriate, it proved that for frictional matrix, principle, even its generalized form, not relevant. Nevertheless, dependence pore still specified simple way, so complete knowledge any prescribed value only requires determining dry material. Moreover, possibility adopting sufficiently accurate approximations actual by resorting to effective formulation discussed.
