摘要: Purpose Inappropriate antimicrobial use was examined among a randomly and prospectively selected cohort of patients with at least one positive result blood cultures. This misuse then analyzed respect to hospital charges length stay (LOS). Patients methods The study consisted 70 (average age, 58.5 years) who had not undergone bone marrow transplantation. Patient charts were reviewed daily for the following information: clinical signs symptoms infection, pertinent laboratory data, culture results, detailed data on each in every regimen their appropriateness, charges, LOS, diagnostic procedure codes, discharge status. Three severity illness variables generated. described according 12 categories. Results percent misuse, defined as proportion days administration antimicrobials which or more judged inappropriate, found be 22.3%. After adjustment diagnosis, this average inappropriateness correlated 4.2 additional hospitalisation $5,368 charges. Conclusion Our results cannot distinguish several possible reasons these associations, including direct causality (e.g., toxicity prolonged hospitalization use) indirect links such inappropriate utilization other resources influences accounted our equations. Nevertheless, magnitude association gives import desirability further studies.
