The value of sputum gram stain in the diagnosis of pneumococcal pneumonia.

摘要: The utility of sputum Gram stain in identifying positive diplococci and other bacteria was studied 39 patients with community acquired pneumonia (CAP). results the were compared to lung aspirate (LA). Of 28 whose LA smear showed diplococci, 26 (95%) had same organisms, either exclusively or predominantly, their sputum. One patient negative rods both aspirate. Seventy-one per cent versus 50% taken antimicrobials for less than 36 hours prior coming hospital. We conclude that is a sensitive method diagnosis pneumococcal unaffected by short period antimicrobial treatment.
