摘要: Publisher Summary In a recent review, Kelso and colleagues detailed the effects of atmospheric acidic deposition on fish fishery resources Canada. Evidence presented suggested that water system acidification resulted in loss species as early 1950 has peaked 1970's. The review further indicates 38% all Canada's lakes are regions susceptible to deposition. While was concern governments scientific community, investigations into biological implications potential restoration stocks driven by economic importance this resource; approximately 5 billion 1987 dollars or roughly 1% gross national product. Therefore, it not surprising environmental “acid rain” became major research theme fisheries researchers during late 1970s 1980s. However, years progress been made understanding problem—namely, (1) mechanism(s) which impairs electrolyte homeostasis, (2) morphological chronic, sublethal low pH exposure, (3) ability/inability develop increased tolerance such exposure. chapter addresses these issues while maintaining overall focus gills, organ clearly established primary site action acidification.
