摘要: The canthines represent a fairly large subclass of β-carboline alkaloids, with the first members described 75 years ago. Over last 60 years, many parent compound, canthin-6-one (1), have been isolated from various plant sources, principally Rutaceae and Simaroubaceae families, recently fungi. Structures these sources subject total synthesis, which continues to present day. This review gives broad overview synthetic approaches over 30-year period 1982 2012 summarizes recent reports on synthesis less well known ring-truncated congeners. These include C-ring-truncated ("ABD", 2) A-ring-truncated ("BCD", 3) ring systems, are providing new scaffolds for potentially useful therapeutic applications.
