摘要: Target cells are thought to regulate the survival of afferent neurons during development by supplying limiting amounts neurotrophic factors, but degree which remain dependent on target-derived support in adult is uncertain. In this study, uninjured basal forebrain cholinergic did not die after excitotoxic ablation their target young rats, indicating that they either factors for or can obtain trophic from other sources lost. This finding suggests cell death neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease due solely a loss provided them.
