摘要: This article takes the case of Scottish wildcats, threatened with extinction through hybridisation feral domestic cats, as a site for exploring what it means to conserve species such. To this end, looks at practices associated conserving wildcats defined by definite phenotypical, morphological and/or genetic type, abstracted from indefinite, fleshy organisms emplaced and entangled within changing ecologies. The describes biopolitical work taxonomically distinguishing (Felis silvestris) cats catus) their hybrids, challenges presented disorderly agencies wild-living cats. It then outlines reflects on proposed captive breeding programme aimed preserving ‘pure’ wildcat sub-species type. highlights ways in which species-based conservation can conflict care individual animals well life’s immanent, generative tendencies.
