Monitoring the first dockless bike sharing system in Greece: Understanding user perceptions, usage patterns and adoption barriers

摘要: Abstract The city of Rethymno in Crete is the first Greek to host a Dockless Bike Sharing System (DBSS). This scheme that means promote sustainable mobility and help mitigating high levels car traffic induced particularly during summer by consistently increasing number tourists. present paper examines efficiency this DBSS aiming at: a) analysing current usage patterns, b) identifying discussing various reasons encourage or deter its use c) capturing few key user perceptions reflecting affecting acceptance usage. study adopts mix-method approach consisting secondary data analysis, field observations quantitative survey, completed 534 users. findings illustrate used primarily for short-distance trips (up 1,5 km) very short rentals 15 min). Traffic safety concerns limitations existing cycling infrastructure are two factors adversely scheme's usage, since many questioned whether was an effective investment under situation with given constrains Rethymno's transport system. majority both frequent occasional users thought affordable, easy suitable tourist local populations. These constitute ever footprint Greece can be as input delivering appropriate policy interventions future urban transportation strategies looking reinforce bike sharing increase uptake. also offers valuable guidance providers about how businesses prosper long-term environment where shared schemes novel socio-technical interventions.
