Numerical simulations of random suspensions at finite Reynolds numbers

摘要: Abstract The sedimentation of solid spherical particles in an initially quiescent fluid is investigated through numerical simulations. Under conditions Stokes flow, the results provide good agreement with experiments for mean settling velocity while fluctuation levels grow size system accordance theoretical predictions homogeneous suspensions. New on finite Reynolds number suspensions are presented that illustrate role wake-induced interactions between particles. A significant reduction average explained by enhancement a scattering process. Anisotropy flow evident and evolution correlations various particulate numbers. Increases tend to decrease integral length scale fluctuating field reduce significantly Lagrangian time fluctuations. Analysis when domain width grows indicates inertial screening dramatically reduces divergence.
