摘要: Inflows are linked to water quality, food web dynamics, and the incidence of harmful algal blooms (HABs). It may be that inflows can manipulated mitigate some accelerate recovery living natural resources, such as fisheries. Lack available water, however, limit this approach management. Utilizing source from deeper depths displace surface waters, might effectively mimic aspects inflow events, disrupting ecological processes community succession through hydraulic displacement. We tested notion by conducting in-lake mesocosm experiments with plankton communities plagued Prymnesium parvum where we flushing. found P. cell densities were reduced up 69% 53%, ambient toxicity ameliorated, during pre-bloom bloom development periods. Furthermore, other phytoplankton taxa zooplankton benefited these pulsed flushing events. In words, deep waters not only suppressed initiation development, but also proved beneficial lower web. These observations provide first demonstration interrupted, arrested, manipulations.
