摘要: BACKGROUND This paper summarises the methods and sources of data used to estimate costs affective disorders presents results. METHOD A timing model employing regression analysis was developed morbidity costs. measures lifetime effect on current income individuals with disorders, taking into account onset duration these disorders. RESULTS Affective imposed an estimated US$ 20.8 billion burden in 1985 30.4 1990 US. represent 21% all mental illnesses. Direct treatment comprised 58.4% total 1985; costs, 8.1%; mortality present value future earnings lost due premature mortality, 28.9%, based a 6% discount rate; other related including cost crime, productivity incarceration, caregiver services, 4.6%. Private for 49% direct expenditures persons disorders; state local funds, 26%; federal 25%. CONCLUSION In light high societal resources, more attention should be directed at comprehensive, research-based strategies reduce prevalence United States.
