摘要: Over the last half of 20th century Pyrodinium bahamense var. has been observed in a variety locations western North Atlantic. Recent evidence toxin- producing capacity this P. heightened interest its habitat requirements and preferences. The objective study was to examine environmental factors that relate spatial temporal patterns distribution abundance bahamense. Based on results we view as operating one or more ways: (1) eco- physiological limitations for survival successful reproductive cycle, (2) regulation growth standing crop, (3) competitive advantages relation other species. focus Florida peninsula, but information from environments tropical Atlantic Gulf Mexico included interpretation results. In terms limitations, 20°C appears be lower temperature limit significant presence bahamense, salinity tolerance ranged 10 45. bloom potential most closely associated with shallow ecosystems long water residence times, peak biomass levels were correlated nutrient concentrations regions high abundance. ability compete effectively euryhaline warm-water phytoplankton is viewed existing theories succession competition, including Margalef's Mandala, Reynolds' Intaglio C-S-R life-form strategies proposed by Smayda & Reynolds.
