摘要: Abstract Sessile animals living on continental shelves or slopes may adjust their growth and reproduction according to temporally spatially variable food availability, but little information is available these date. We collected the pedunculate barnacle Heteralepas canci a slope at depth of 229 m off Cape Nomamisaki in southern Japan. developed rearing method for barnacles studied different levels laboratory. A total 136 individual H. were fed with Artemia salina larvae brewer's yeast three 100 days. Both ovary development delayed when availability was low, whereas survival rate lower high level. In addition, an survived under complete starvation 167 concluded that has plastic life history traits are adaptive availability.
