摘要: The rare Newfoundland disjuncts Chara evoluta and canescens are compared morphologically, ecologically, geographically. Although very similar they can readily be distinguished by their monoecious/dioecious nature, cortical cell features coronula size. Ecological differences more subtle difficult to quantify. In the two species restricted coastal saline lagoons in southwest region of Island, with C. exhibiting an association aspera . flora fauna these unique habitats poorly documented even though it is known that associated other including Piping Plover Banded Killifish. Consideration some degree protection as special within provincial ecological reserve strategy suggested. An updated key all charophytes inhabit Labrador included, a brief overview distributions provided.
