摘要: Background Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality amongst infants children globally. Complex heart lesions are more costly to manage than simple lesions. Geographical differences in the spectrum CHD have been reported; knowledge provides foundation for rational allocation health care resources. We undertook study determine if Kenya differs from that encountered elsewhere globe. Methods A five year retrospective was carried out at Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi between January 1st 2000 December 31st 2004. The frequency selected examined compared with reported other parts world. Results Two hundred fourteen patients were studied. mean age confirmation diagnosis by echocardiography 18.6 months. ventricular septal defects, atrial patent ductus arteriosus, tetralogy Fallot transposition great arteries, 18.7%, 4.7%, 10.7%, 8.4%, 6.5% 4.2% respectively. Conclusion may contain complex found developed regions Health resource formulae applied nations not optimize developing nations. This important implications towards Kenya.
