摘要: Background: A recent meta-analysis of randomized trials revealed that antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) as a class increase the risk suicidal thoughts and behavior. We conducted an observational study with data from United Kingdom General Practice Research Database to investigate if in for different groups AEDs is also evident clinical practice. Methods: This was nested case-control cohort 44,300 patients epilepsy who were treated AEDs. Patients self-harm or behavior identified by predefined codes. included 453 cases 8,962 age-matched sex-matched controls. classified into 4 groups: barbiturates, conventional AEDs, newer low (lamotrigine, gabapentin, pregabalin, oxcarbazepine) high (levetiracetam, tiagabine, topiramate, vigabatrin) potential causing depression. Adjusted odds ratios (OR) calculated using conditional logistic regression. Results: Current use depression associated 3-fold increased self-harm/suicidal (OR = 3.08; 95% [CI] 1.22–7.77) compared no during last year. Use barbiturates 0.66; CI 0.25–1.73), 0.74; 0.53–1.03), low-risk 0.87; 0.47–1.59) not risk. Conclusions: Newer rather frequency depressive symptoms may For most commonly used other observed.
