摘要: Background and Purpose— Age-related white matter disease (leukoaraiosis) clusters in bands the centrum semiovale, about occipital frontal horns of lateral ventricles, corpus callosum, internal capsule. Cerebrovascular anatomy suggests that some these locations represent border zones between arterial supply territories. We hypothesized there are reduced cerebrovascular reserve (susceptible to selective reductions blood flow, ie, steal phenomenon) young, healthy subjects, physiological correlate anatomically defined zones. Furthermore, we spatially correspond with regions where elderly develop leukoaraiosis. Methods— Twenty-eight volunteers underwent functional MR mapping response hypercapnia. studied 18 subjects by oxygen level-dependent MRI 10 spin labeling MRI. controlled both end-tidal pco2 po2. All funct...
