摘要: Background Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a prevalent and costly disease that adversely impacts quality of life. As with other chronic diseases, individual environmental factors impact the process. Smoking secondhand tobacco (SHS) exposures are important risk for CRS. However, little known about role physicians play in educating sinusitis patients this preventable risk. The objective study was to characterize physician participation SHS exposure screening education. Methods The community-based, case-control non-current smokers Washington County, MD. One hundred cases CRS were matched 100 controls age, sex, former smoking status. We interviewed participants using validated questionnaire included questions on inquiry recommendations pertaining exposure. Results Over 80% recalled their inquiring current status, whereas only 27% being asked by 23% reported recommended avoiding SHS. In contrast, more asthma inquired (39.6%, although difference borderline significant p = 0.12) reducing (45.8%, 0.005). Conclusion Despite increasing support as factor CRS, relatively few inquire provide avoidance. Brief increases success cessation.
