摘要: Case-control studies of antenatal drug exposure and birth defects often rely on maternal recall use in pregnancy. Differential among mothers cases controls can lead to information bias ("maternal bias"), the opportunity for such increases as ascertainment diminishes. The effect questionnaire design pregnancy was examined two studies. In a pilot interview study 532 women obstetric/gynecologic practices, past year obtained by means three questions asked sequence: first question open-ended, second about selected indications, third specifically named drugs. Among obstetric patients who reported any five drugs, less than 50% did so response open-ended question, approximately 20-40% only when specific name asked. case-control Birth Defects Study 5,435 malformed children, asking sequence indications 11 6-40% name. These findings suggest that completeness varies according how mother is questioned directly related specificity
