摘要: Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) that use small organic molecules like methanol and ethanol as in the anode, oxygen cathode, are attracting considerable interest for application portable electronic devices. Carbon-supported platinum has highest catalytic activity reduction when compared to all other pure metals, serves state-of-the-art cathode material low-temperature cells. Regarding direct or (DMFC DEFC), one of major problems is alcohol crossover through polymer electrolyte. The mixed potential, which results from reaction oxidation occurring simultaneously, reduces cell voltage, generates additional water increases required stoichiometric ratio. This problem can be, principle, solved either by using electrolytes with lower permeability developing new electrocatalysts both higher tolerance than Pt. chapter presents an overview recent developments non-platinum-based catalysts ethanol-tolerant materials
