摘要: Education was added to the U.S. Standard Certificate of Death in 1989. The current study uses Michigan’s 1989–1991 death certificates, together with 1990 Census, evaluate quality data on education from certificates and examine educational differences mortality rates. With log-rates modeling, we systematically analyze variability by race sex across adult life cycle. relative rates between levels decline age at same pace for all categories. Women gain a slightly greater reduction than men reaching secondary-education level, but modestly smaller advancing beyond it. Blacks show predicted comparable whites’ moving secondary postsecondary level experience less whites primary level. Thus, secular that generally accompanies historical improvements might actually be associated an increase blacks’ mortality. We discuss limitations directions future research.
