Ultra‐small‐angle neutron scattering from dense micrometre‐sized colloidal systems: data evaluation and comparison with static light scattering

摘要: Ultra-small-angle neutron scattering (USANS) probes the same q regime as static light (LS), making USANS an additional tool for study of structures between 100 nm and 10 μm. Dense oil-in-water emulsions, which have already been characterized intensively by scattering, are investigated in this a model system using USANS. The two basic problems such studies following: on one hand, has to use different theories LS, other both cases deal not only with particle interactions but also multiple-scattering effects. For it is always possible simpler Rayleigh-Debye-Gans (RDG) theory instead Lorenz-Mie theory, generally describes from micrometre-sized globular objects. samples contrasts that low-contrast (close index match) LS data can be interpreted RDG theory. evaluation performed means generalized indirect Fourier transformation (GIFT) method, enables simultaneous calculation form structure factors. results discussed compared those experiments, taking into account advantages methods. effect multiple its influence examined.
