摘要: Introduction: About 70 million people worldwide are estimated to suffer from epilepsy. Despite a large variety of old and new antiepileptic drugs on the market, about 30% with epilepsy do not become seizure-free medical treatment. This is major individual public health burden. Most these difficult-to-treat patients having focal seizures. Zonisamide effective against seizures in adults children and, thus, therapeutic option for such patients. Its safety profile needs special attention. Areas covered: Herein, authors discuss pharmacology, clinical efficacy adverse effects zonisamide. The article derived trial data, long-term studies, meta-analyses, review articles, text books, webpages, official license information. Expert opinion: has proven be efficacious adults, although it more than carbamazepine or other drugs. It also generalized several conditions CNS. may prevent becoming first-line drug any indication.
