From semantics to feelings: how do individuals with schizophrenia rate the emotional valence of words?

摘要: Schizophrenia is characterized by both emotional and language abnormalities. However, in spite of reports preserved evaluation valence affective stimuli, such as pictures, it less clear how individuals with schizophrenia assess verbal material valence, for example, the overall unpleasantness/displeasure relative to pleasantness/attraction a word. This study aimed investigate schizophrenic rate adjectives, when compared group healthy controls. One hundred eighty-four adjectives differing were presented. These previously categorized “neutral,” “positive” (pleasant), or “negative” (unpleasant) five judges not participating current experiment. Adjectives from three categories matched on word length, frequency, familiarity. Sixteen diagnosis seventeen controls asked each word, using computerized version Self-Assessment Manikin (Bradley Lang, 1994). Results demonstrated similar ratings words, suggesting representation knowledge schizophrenia, at least terms dimension.
