摘要: Abstract Numerical weather prediction (NWP), a method of forecasting using equations that describe atmospheric flows and behavior, is used extensively to help predict conditions along roadways has important implications for maintaining safety efficiency on the transportation network. An insufficiently dense surface observation network presents major limitation in obtaining current state atmosphere NWP at high spatial temporal resolutions, such as required by road applications. Connected vehicle technologies, where public, private, commercial vehicles serve weather-observing platforms, can be fill these gaps A pilot study was formed quantify impact observations roadways, would exist with fully implemented connected NWP. First, simulated probe dataset created. This assimilated into Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model select case studies, resulting output compared against baseline WRF run without data assimilation. It found had an overall positive precipitation other variable outputs, though several cases slight. Major improvements occurred when wiper status proxy apply forward error correction point forecast probability quantitative forecasts.
