Theoretical Expected Genetic Gains for Among‐and‐Within‐Family Selection Methods in Perennial Forage Crops

摘要: Genetic gains in forage yield lag far behind the made grain of cereal crops, partly because use ineffi cient selection methods that make little additive genetic variance within half-sib or full-sib families. The objectives this study were (i) to compute expected for among-and-withinfamily (AWF) methods, (ii) compare these standard family and progeny-test (iii) defi ne conditions under which AWF may be superior selection. Among-and-within-family is equal better than all circumstances provided within-family criterion (X Y) heritable has a positive correlation with desired trait (Y). favored over by high heritability on an individual-plant basis (relative family-mean basis), withinfamily intensity ≥ among-family intensity, possibly shorter cycle time (for some species breeding programs). These are more frequently achieved mating systems due greater partitioning families, but can also heavily system bit restrictive.
