摘要: In response to attack by natural enemies, most aphid species release an alarm pheromone that causes nearby conspecifics cease feeding and disperse. The primary component of the studied is (E)-β-farnesene. We recently demonstrated production accumulation (E)-β-farnesene during development juvenile aphids stimulated exposure odor cues, likely emitted other colony members. Here, we tested whether can be triggered individuals, thereby amplifying signal. Such contagious emission might adaptive under some conditions because amount released a single may not sufficient alert appropriate number individuals presence potential threat. By using push–pull headspace collection system, quantified from Acyrthosiphon pisum exposed conspecific signals. Typical avoidance behavior was observed following (i.e., ceased dropped host-plant); however, no increase in detected, suggesting does occur.
