摘要: Background: A promising strategy to help older adults preserve or build muscle mass is optimize anabolism through providing an adequate amount of high-quality protein at each meal. Objective: This "proof principle" study investigated the acute effect supplementing breakfast with a vitamin D and leucine-enriched whey medical nutrition drink on postprandial synthesis longer-term in healthy adults. Methods: randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind was conducted 24 men [mean ± SD: age 71 4 y; body index (in kg/m2) 24.7 2.8] between September 2012 October 2013 Unit Human Nutrition, University Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand, France. Participants received [test group; 21 g protein, 9 carbohydrates, 3 fat, 800 IU cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), 628 kJ] noncaloric placebo (control group) before for 6 wk. Mixed fractional rate (FSR) measured week 0 basal state, after product intake standardized use l-[2H5]-phenylalanine tracer methodology. The evaluated by measurement appendicular lean mass, representing skeletal weeks 6, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Results: Postprandial FSR (0-240 min) higher test group than control [estimate difference (ED): 0.022%/h; 95% CI: 0.010%/h, 0.035%/h; ANCOVA, P = 0.001]. gained more wk (ED: 0.37 kg; 0.03, 0.72 0.035), predominantly as leg 0.30 0.57 0.034).Conclusions: Supplementing stimulated increased intervention may therefore be way support preservation people. trial registered www.trialregister.nl NTR3471.
