摘要: Abstract A subsurface Lagrangian float that utilizes motional induction to calculate vertically averaged velocities was tested in the North Atlantic Current (NAC), taking advantage of existing cruises and infrastructure. The Electric Field Float (EFF) is a RAFOS with horizontal electrodes measures its own velocity by tracking calculates when merged electrode system. observations showed depth-averaged were fast core NAC (0.6–0.9 m s −1) moderate adjacent recirculations eddies (0.3–0.4 m s−1). at 850 dbar moved close velocity, while shallower floats followed surface intensified flow on top motion. Integral time scales (1.3–1.6±0.4 d) are slightly shorter than (1.6–2.0±0.3 d), integral length water (35±10 km for u, 18±6 km v) motion (53±12 km 28±6 km v). Velocity spectra show significant variance inertial periods. Quantitative qualitative validation multiple independent data sets confirms accuracy instrument sampling strategy NAC, advancing limited observational knowledge circulation subpolar regions.
