摘要: Objective: Western studies have identified the gateway patterns of substance use which lead way from so called "Soft Drugs" (like nicotine, etc.) to "Hard Opioids) [the Gateway hypothesis]. Nicotine and alcohol been implicated as most common initiating drugs in different places, however, are lacking this region. This study was designed find initiation understand factors for initiation, maintenance, relapse these substances persons dependent on them Eastern India. Method: Seventy subjects with ICD 10 DCR diagnosis dependence admitted consecutively Center Addiction Psychiatry, Central Institute Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi, were taken up after taking written informed consent. A semistructured questionnaire including part Mini International Neuropsychiatric Inventory (MINI) administered. Results: Alcohol opioids but nicotine found be both opioid groups. Persons presented earlier treatment, development withdrawal symptoms having completed lesser years formal education, had higher monthly incomes compared those alcohol. The psychosocial determining maintenance peer pressure or curiosity. Conclusions: If adolescents youth can motivated stay away even "gateway drugs" by targeting factors, it may delay possibly avoidance dependence.
