摘要: Unprocessed vegetable products such as spices are increasingly being introduced into museum displays that seek to provide a more accessible and not solely visual sense of other cultures historical periods. Because their aromatic nature, there is always the suspicion materials may emit damaging volatile organic compounds. This creates quandary for conservator in advising on design exhibitions; little experimental or empirical evidence available clarify whether actually do compounds kind which would endanger exhibits. One each morphological categories plant spice was tested by ambient temperature heat-accelerated corrosion tests with metal tokens, but this provides only limited indications how substance might affect materials. To potential threat wider spectrum objects, emissions from spices, generated both simulated aging experiments displays, were analyzed headspace desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry using Tenax cartridges trap chemical components volatiles emitted. report discusses these initiate deterioration objects effectiveness various palliative measures.
