摘要: In 2010 for the 50th Anniversary issue of Acarologia, first scientific journal devoted to study mites, Walter and Proctor (yes, that’s us) compared use spiders mites in literature. Although there were 2–3 times as many citations overall, when only a select subset high profile journals with broad readerships searched, came out ahead every single one, usually by at least twice papers (Walter & 2010). Ecology, genetics agriculture dominant topics involving mites: behaviour, morphology materials science dominated those spiders. latter, structure spider webs was main theme, no all or mite silk. Even ticks poorly represented most being disease-causing microbes they vector little on biology themselves. Many high-profile articles highlighted fascinating aspects their behaviour morphology: courtship male ornamentation, female genitalic extravagances; maternal care social behaviour; predatory web structure. If you’ve read preceding chapters this book, you know that have equally behaviours morphologies, but would never from reading pages Nature, Science, Evolution, Proceedings national societies.
