Ultrasonic C-Scan Image Processing Using Multilevel Thresholding for Damage Evaluation in Aircraft Vertical Stabilizer

摘要: Following the "on condition maintenance" approach used for extending service life of an aircraft one major tasks is a nondestructive testing its critical elements. Considering that many elements operated are manufactured from polymeric composites special attention should be paid diagnosing these due to their high vulnerability barely visible impact damage. One primary techniques inspection composite ultrasonic C-Scan technique which application results in planar images emitted/received wave attenuation and time flight map. Due complex nature damage occurrence it difficult analyze resulting images. Therefore, using assistance based on image processing may help with "big-data" analysis collected In this paper authors proposed algorithm semi- automatic evaluation such distribution structures. The multilevel Otsu thresholding morphological processing. Using extraction visualization as well characterization 3D representation possible. developed will allow supporting structures technique.
