Mothers' beliefs and barriers about childhood diarrhea and its management in Morang district, Nepal.

摘要: In developing countries, mothers usually manage diarrhea at home with the pattern of management depending on perceived disease severity and beliefs. The study was carried out objective determining mothers’ beliefs barriers about its management. Qualitative methods involving two focus group discussions eight in-depth interviews were used to collect data. conducted following places: Tankisinuwari, Kanchanbari Pokhariya Morang district, Nepal during months February March 2010. Purposive sampling method adopted recruit twenty based inclusion criteria. A semi-structured interview guide conduct interviews. Written informed consent obtained from all participants before conducting moderated by main researcher support an expert observer Nobel Medical College. recorded permission notes written a pre trained note-taker. recordings transcribed verbatim. All data categorized analyzed using thematic content analysis. Twenty participated in most (80%) them not educated. About 75% had monthly income up 5000 Nepalese rupees (US$ 60.92). Although majority believed be due natural causes, there also supernatural origin diarrhea. Thin watery considered as serious. There diversity foods/fluids approaches. Similarly, several noted regarding prevention and/or such financial weakness, lack awareness, absence education, distance healthcare facilities senior family members home. elderly compelled visit traditional healers. varied among types, causes diarrhea, classification preventing or treating
