Essential oil composition and in vitro antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity of South African Vitex species

摘要: The essential oil composition of Vitex pooara, V. rehmannii, obovata ssp. obovata, wilmsii and zeyheri was determined using gas chromatography mass spectrometry. in vitro antimicrobial activity the oils assessed on Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus Escherichia coli minimum inhibitory concentration values recorded. All were moderately active with being most (8, 4 16mg ml− 1 for S. B. E. respectively). anti-inflammatory evaluated a 5-lipoxygenase assay all effectively inhibited 5-lipoxygenase, key enzyme inflammatory cascade pooara producing promising (IC50 value 25ppm). Using data matrix, chemotaxonomic evidence is presented which supports infrageneric placement subgenus while other four above mentioned taxa are placed Holmskiodiopsis.
