Wineries’ Perception of Sustainability Costs and Benefits: An Exploratory Study in California

摘要: The present study aims to make a contribution the analysis of costs and benefits adopting sustainable practices. paper reports results an exploratory into wineries’ perceived mix economic environmental provided by participating in Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing scheme. A total 14 wineries, representing more than 50% entire wine production certified (and 25% all wineries), participated study. Based on information detected through face-to-face semi-structured interviews with winery managers owners, performing descriptive logit model, we reveal that overall benefits, resulting from practices introduced certification scheme, outweigh additional costs. In particular, older wineries (>15 years) those located Sonoma Valley or onmultiple sites are keen assign positive viability tosustainable Furthermore, vineyard highly rated respondents terms both benefits. Outcomes should foster similar studies exploring other specific sustainability programs schemes, eventually encourage cross-cultural investigations.
