摘要: Although an effort is made to review marine carotenoids as important bioactive compounds with reference their presence, and chemical biofunctional benefits, there has been a relatively little information on the impact of these human health. The potential beneficial effects have studied particularly in astaxanthin fucoxanthin they are major carotenoids. Both show strong antioxidant activity which attributed quenching singlet oxygen scavenging free radicals. role dietary anti-oxidants suggested be one main mechanisms for preventive against cancer inflammatory diseases. However, it would difficult explain biological activities only by activity. We found antiobesity antidiabetic specific novel bio-functions fucoxanthin. A nutrigenomic study revealed that induces uncoupling protein 1 expression white adipose tissue (WAT) mitochondria lead oxidation fatty acids heat production WAT. Fucoxanthin improves insulin resistance decreases blood glucose level, at least part, through downregulation tumor necrosis factor-alpha WAT animals. Thus, regulation particular bio-molecule will responsible characteristic structures differ depending length polyene, nature end group various substituents contain. key structure effect was carotenoid polyene chromophore containing allenic bond two hydroxyl groups.
