摘要: An alternative form for a height-based terrain-following coordinate is presented here that progressively smoothes the surfaces with height to remove smaller scale (steeper) terrain structure from surfaces. Testing this approach in comparison traditional and hybrid formulations resting-atmosphere simulations demonstrates it can significantly reduce artificial circulations caused by inaccuracies horizontal pressure gradient term. The also suggest some further improvementintheaccuracyofthehorizontalpressuregradienttermscanbeachievedusingasimplifiedversion of Mahrer’s approach, which be implemented little increase computational cost or complexity.
